It is with great pleasure that we announce the 9th International Conference on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development (EESD2018). The conference will take place from 3-6 June, 2018, at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, US. Main activities will be housed at the newly expanded and renovated Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering.
The College has a long standing tradition of innovation and research in both the scholarship of teaching and pedagogy in engineering education. Funded through the generous donation made by the late Henry and Betty Rowan, the Engineering College has thrived in only twenty years to be at the center of economic growth and expansion in the southern region of the State of New Jersey.
Bringing EESD to the United States has never been more relevant. Education in general and, more specifically, education for sustainable development in the US is facing serious challenges, and it is necessary to remain focused to reassure that our responsibility as educators of future generations of engineer professionals continues with the same indefatigable tenacity and fulfills the demands of global and modern societies.
The EESD conference provides an open forum for the discussion and sharing of ideas and methods in teaching practices and curriculum advances in engineering education for sustainability. This year’s theme—Creating the Holistic Engineer—brings about the reality that current and future engineers cannot work in silos and that the broader understanding of the complexity of all human activity is crucial for the development of sound engineering practices.
I warmly welcome you to Rowan University and hope you join us at EESD2018 in the first week of June of 2018.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee,
Mariano J. Savelski
